Racheal Knight

BSc. Disaster Risk Management and Sustainable Development, Cooperative University.

National Drought Management Authority under the Ministry of Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes.

The exposure in my placement area has been a learning ground and a place to apply what I theoretically learnt in the University. The opportunity to be in the Information Department has enabled me to know what really happens in the 23 Arid and Semi-Arid Counties in Kenya. I have had the privilege of learning how to make monthly NDMA bulletins which contain information on the situation on the ground. By highlighting the drought indicators and analyzing them, one is able to compare the findings with the previous months and knowing the severity of the Disaster.

Networking with individuals from other Departments and NDMA Stakeholders has given me the chance to clearly connect the impact of the organization on Drought Mitigation and response.
